Our What good looks like series is an opportunity for public sector leaders and practitioners to hear about projects and good practice examples from other public organisations.

At this session, we focused on performance reporting for the public sector. Performance reporting plays an important role in maintaining public trust and confidence in the public sector. Our Office has recently published new guidance on performance reporting, developed jointly with Audit New Zealand and the Treasury. It aims to help people in central government prepare better reports on the performance of their public organisation, particularly the annual report.

People working in other sectors, such as the local government sector, might also find this guidance useful.

The Auditor-General, John Ryan, and the Treasury’s Deputy Secretary, Struan Little, introduced our guidance. They were joined by senior officials from ACC, the New Zealand Customs Service, and the Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority who shared their own experiences in addressing the challenges and opportunities of effective performance reporting.
